Use of BBJ Products for Mold Remediation

Remediation takes many forms and includes: Post Fire Restoration, Flood Damage Restoration, Mold Restoration, Water Intrusion Restoration (different from Flood where water rises rather than coming from a leak).

In each type of project, the detailed techniques may vary but the objectives are the same:
  1. Protect Safety of workers, the public at large and occupants of the space.
  2. Remove and dispose of materials and contents that are not salvable.
  3. Clean remaining surfaces and contents.
  4. Minimize the possibility of future complications and reoccurrences of the problem.
  5. Return the space to pre loss condition.
Removal of excess water and drying of contents and materials is the major technique used in remediation where excess moisture is involved and we should never suggest that any BBJ Product is a substitute for proper drying of the building and its contents. There are, however, several important applications for various products in remediation projects:

BBJ Mold and Mildew Remover Concentrate - This is a workhorse product for remediation. It is highly concentrated so is easy to transport to the job and economical to use. It is convenient to dilute accurately with the self-measuring container and provides cleaning and disinfection in one step. Where carpets are contaminated with floodwater or mold growth, it can often be used to avoid replacement if used as a shampoo to remove and destroy the contaminating organisms.
BBJ Mold and Mildew Remover - This product is a more effective cleaner than the concentrate and provides the convenience of being ready to use. For general use, many contractors will find it too expensive to use. Where there are stubborn or oily soils it may provide a better result than the concentrate.
BBJ Microbiocide for Floors and Walls - This product is excellent “insurance” on every job to provide an extra measure of protection against growth in the weeks and months following a cleanup. It should be used following each job and can be lightly sprayed on surfaces and contents or misted using our or a similar fogger. Those in the restoration industry will normally not ask for this product, as there are not other products out there that provide the same benefit so some education will be necessary. However, the first time a contractor uses this product on a job where there is a lingering odor that is suggestive of some growth that was not identified or cleaned adequately, they will never be without it. The control of growth that it can establish in 24 hours or less is remarkable. In addition, it can save a lot of labor and future headaches on those jobs where the facility was quickly dried before general growth started but there is some doubt.

Fresh Duct Odor Eliminator - Disagreeable odors are a major challenge during a restoration project. Occupants of a remediated space expect a fresh and clean smelling facility at the end of the project. This product can eliminate the source of many odors without leaving a heavy “perfumy” smell. Its low active content also means that it will not be a source of irritation for sensitive occupants.
