BBJ Environmental Solutions Addresses Toxic Mold and Parents Concerns of What's In The Air Their Children Breathe

Tampa, June 5, 2002

BBJ Environmental Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: BBJE.OB - news) announced that BBJ Environmental Solutions, Inc. has received numerous inquiries recently regarding "toxic" mold. As Bob Baker, Chairman and CEO, explained "In the mid 1990's, whole conferences were dedicated to bacteria and fungi, while microbial growth was seen as a problem associated with hot and humid climates. By the beginning of the new millennium, everyone seemed focused on biological contamination, especially the newly popular term 'toxic' mold. The culprit: Overgrowth of mold from numerous water leaks. What has driven this new understanding of our indoor environment? Certainly, media reports of high profile mold problems have captured our attention. Starting with courthouses and contaminated homes, such as Erin Brockovich and Ed McMahon, the reports soon turned to schools and the element of urgency to protect our children was added."

With the alarming numbers of children developing allergies and asthma each year and with disturbing reports about "toxic" mold, parents want to know what's in the air their children breathe. The Chelsea Group recently did a nationwide survey of consumers' perceptions of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). According to George Benda, Chairman and CEO of the Chelsea Group, Ltd., "Parents with children living in the home expressed the greatest interest in testing their homes. This finding is not unexpected given the increased prevalence of asthma in children and the numerous reports of mold infestation in homes reported in the media. It reflects their concern for their children's health and their willingness to do what they can to protect them."

Bob Baker added, "Fungi are present almost everywhere in indoor and outdoor environments. The most common symptoms of fungal exposure are runny nose, eye irritation, cough, congestion, and aggravation of asthma. There have been reports linking health effects in office workers to offices contaminated with moldy surfaces and in residents of homes contaminated with fungal growth. Symptoms, such as fatigue, respiratory ailments, and eye irritation were typically observed in these cases. Emphasis should be placed on preventing contamination through proper building and HVAC system maintenance and prompt repair of water damage.

Bob Baker added "Since most people spend a majority of their lives indoors, the quality of indoor air is a major area of concern. The question I continue to ask, especially now as we head into the Spring and Summer season is, 'Is your air conditioning system ready for the coming season?' While families are constantly looking for ways to improve their indoor environments, HVAC contractors are fast becoming familiar with IAQ problems. As a recognized industry leader, BBJ continually educates contractors through our distributor relationships. These IAQ education seminars emphasize the need for such products that BBJ offers. These products along with regularly scheduled maintenance can pay handsome dividends, such as lowering your energy bill and improving the quality of the air your family breathes. This rapidly growing need has created significant demand for our environmentally friendly products."
