:: BBJ PRESS RELEASES

BBJ Environmental Solutions Takes Responsible Position Regarding Bio-Terrorism and Anthrax Claims

Tampa, November 15, 2001

BBJ Environmental Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of BBJ Environmental Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: BBJE) welcomes the news that the US Securities & Exchange Commission is cracking down on companies making unsubstantiated claims on anthrax-fighting products. It has already suspended trading of stock in one company that announced it was testing its disinfectant as an anthrax-fighter. Regulators believe the announcement - and others like it - may have been made simply to boost stock prices as anthrax continues to be a major news story.

"Investment scams that attempt to prey on fears of terrorism are abhorrent," said SEC Enforcement Division Director Stephen M. Cutler. "We will be vigilant about rooting out and prosecuting those who seek to exploit recent events to defraud investors." The commission reminded investors to be particularly skeptical about claims by companies or promoters suggesting that they possess or have access to a financially lucrative product or service that will somehow aid in the war against terrorism.

A spokesman for the Consumer Specialty Products Association added "Disinfectant cleaners are strong fighters against common colds, flu, food poisoning and intestinal viruses. However, household and institutional disinfectants should not be expected to act as a primary route of defense against risks from exposure to anthrax. The Association felt it was necessary to put the public's expectations of disinfectants into proper perspective, as recent anthrax attacks generated a rash of inquiries about the effectiveness of over-the-counter disinfecting products."

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ("CDC"), when asked if anthrax spores can be killed by microwave, UV light, or ironing, they responded "While some of these methods may kill some spores, it is not known what procedures to use (e.g., length of time, temperature, etc.). Furthermore, because of insufficient data on the efficacy of these methods in inactivating anthrax spores, CDC does not recommend these techniques for reliable decontamination."

Mr Robert Baker, Chairman of BBJ, stated "There have been several press releases recently issued that were incredibly misleading. Many of the statements were simply not correct and to suggest that these devices and/or products would provide effective protection from anthrax or any other infectious disease is unbelievably irresponsible. BBJ's message has not changed - 'Keep Systems Clean'. If the surfaces are clean and treated with a growth inhibiting treatment (BBJ MicroBiocide), the spores would most likely be washed down the drain along with the condensate water and would not be able to germinate (producing more active anthrax). It is critically important to routinely clean and maintain HVAC/R systems to prevent the buildup of organic material on the cooling coils and other moist areas of the system. If a small concentration of bacteria managed to reach this area, they could feed on the organic material and amplify to a greater concentration. If BBJ MicroBiocide and our other products are used as part of a well planned and consistently executed preventative maintenance program, risk can be reduced and may make a critical difference. We cannot assure our customers of a safe and perfect world but we can, however, use our knowledge and products to help them better and possibly more safely manage their indoor environments. Therefore, a comprehensive preventative maintenance program should be in place in every building whether there is a threat of bio-terrorism or not."

Mr. Baker added, "Keep in mind that Anthrax is the disease caused by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis. B. anthracis is an aerobic organism, meaning that the bug requires molecular oxygen (O2) to flourish. In the presence of high oxygen concentrations, such as one finds in air, the organism immediately changes to what is known as an endospore. Endospore formation is common to the genus Bacillus, and is a special form of the bacterial cell that is highly resistant to heat, dessication (lack of water) and radiation. This endospore form of the organism essentially exists in a state of 'suspended animation'. Once the organism infects an animal or human, however, the endospore reverts to what is named a vegetative cell. It is the vegetative cell that causes the disease. The most dangerous form of the disease caused by B. anthracis is respiratory or inhalation anthrax. The initial symptoms appear much like the flu so unless one suspects exposure to Anthrax, there may be a delay in seeking treatment. Therefore, if you suspect exposure to Anthrax, the Center for Disease Control should be contacted immediately as they are the central repository for information about biological agents and can provide assistance with the diagnosis, treatment and control of these dangerous organisms.
